Cabernet Sauvignon 38%, Merlot 57%, Petit Verdot 5%
Winemaker, Gabrielle Leonhard O’Connell shifted the Meritage style blend to be Merlot based. The result was an elegant, smooth wine that has stunning aromatics and flavors. The vision of Elle is a red wine with the ripeness Napa Valley fruit with the classic structure of a Bordeaux wine. ELLE will only be produced in vintage years that provide ideal conditions to achieve this vision and the 2018 vintage did perfectly.
This vintage is expressive with a boat-load of mouth filling flavors. Stone fruit aromatics greet you, which evolve into rich red and dark fruits underscored with classic minerality of classic Bordeaux pencil shaving notes. The finish goes on and on, highlighted with bright cherries- a special flavor not frequently found in a finish. The sum is intriguing complexity. Extended aging integrates oak and tannins make this wine so smooth.
The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were harvested from the gold medal winning, historic O’Connell Family Vineyard Estate in the Oak Knoll District, known for its elegant Bordeaux style wines. Cooler mornings extend the ripening period, allowing more time to develop complex flavors. World-class fruit has been grown since the 1850s, when Captain John Osborne planted his award-winning vineyard, that today includes the O’Connell Family Estate Vineyard. Oak Knoll has been treasured by award winning Napa Valley wineries for decades and is now known in its own right since it received Appellation status in 2004. The Merlot is from Yountville that is in the cooler region of Napa Valley, preserving great structure.
Perfectly suited for elegant cuts of beef, veal and traditional Boeuf Bourguignon.
Aged in new and once used French Oak for 31 months of medium+ toast.
